    • THE ADVERTISER - ADELAIDE - WED 28 DECEMBER 1898
      THE LATE MR. T.F. MELLOR.
In the early days of the colony no establishment was better known than that of Mellor Brothers, implement makers and machinists, and during the many years the firm was in existence it did a great deal for the agriculturists of the colony. A late member of the firm, Mr, Thomas Fox Mellor, died suddenly on Saturday last, at his residence in Paxton-street, Semaphore. The deceased gentleman, who was 62 years of age, was born at Rastrick, Yorkshire, in 1836, and came to the colony in the ship Fairleigh, which arrived in 1840. Mr. Mellor was the   eldest son of the late Mr. Joseph Mellor, who was the founder of the firm of "Joseph Mellor," which later was transformed into "Mellor Brothers." After some time Mr. Thomas Mellor joined the Stock Exchange, and also carried on the business of a land and estate agent, but owing to physical weakness he has latterly retired altogether from business. Mr. T. F. Mellor was twice married, and he leaves a grown-up family of three children-Mr. J. T. Mellor, solicitor, of Adelaide, and the Misses M. L. and M. T. Mellor, of the Semaphore, who are well known in church and philanthropic movements. On Christmas Day the remains of the deceased colonist were interred in the West-terrace Cemetery. The Rev. W. Bell read the burial service, and a large number of friends assembled to pay a tribute of respect to his memory.
