  	DEATH OF MR. THOMAS PAGE. GRAFTON, Wednesday. The death has occurred of Mr. Thomas Page aged 82 years. Born in London on April 8, 1844 the late Mr. Page came out to New South Wales in 1858 with his father, who opened the first-Public school under the national system of education in Grafton that year. At the age of 16 Thomas Page assisted his father in the school as a teacher. After two years at teaching he spent two years in the Clarence River stores at Grafton, and then entered the office of a Manchester warehouse in Sydney. He returned to Grafton in 1865, and took out a bookseller's business, which his father had established, and conducted it until he sold out  in 1876. In1874 in conjunction with his brother. Robert, he founded the Grafton "Argus" and, edited it until 1876, when he sold out. ln 1877 he succeeded his father as manager of tho Grafton branch of the old Barrack street Savings Bank, which position be held until  1916,when he retired. The late M r. Thomas Page always took an active part in public matters. He was elected an alderman of Grafton in 1S68 when only 21 years of age, being the youngest occupant of such an office in the State. He was also Mayor In 1870 and 1881.  Two years later he resigned as alderman and became council clerk, an office of which his father had been the first occupant in Grafton. Resigning that position, he again entered the  council as an alderman, and remained there until l893, and from that date was city treasurer, until the offtce was abolished by the Local Government Act of 1906.  He was associated with the management of  the Grafton District Hospital for 40 years as a member of the committee. Mr. Page was appointed a member of the Grafton District Schools Board in 1879, and was chairman for many years. He also filled the positions of president of Grafton Chamber of Commerce, Grafton Parents, and CitizensAssociation, and Clarence Auxiliary of British and Foreign Bible Society, was hon. secretary of the Grafton branch of the Prisoners' Aid Association. He was one of the founders of Loyal Star of East Lodge, Manchester Unity of Oddfellows. Mr. Page leaves five sons and four daughters. Deceased was the uncle of Dr. Earle Page.
