  • Notes
    • From Violet Turner 1967. Page 16
Violet Elizabeth Turner trained at Angas College for mission work, joined the United Aborigines Mission in 1916., serving on different mission stations in New South Wales for three years. She then returned to South Australia and took up work at the Methodist Children's Home, Magill. for 4 years. Her mother's failing health made it necessary for her to go back to the home at Prospect where she remained until her mother died ill 1938. She had returned from New South Wales with the status of U.A.M. representative in South Australia. In 1924 she assisted in forming a mission Council in Adelaide, which opened up aboriginal work in this state. For the first 13 years. Violet was secretary of that Council. During the 6 years of World War II she took up teaching as a profession, first as governess and then in charge of a small school.

In 1944 she returned to New South Wales and became secretary of the Mission council of that State combined with missionary activities among the Aborigines of La Perouse. Retiring in 1949, she turned her attention to temperance work. and in a few years ,became State President of the W.C.T.U. (Women's Christian Temperance Union), a position she hold for only 3 years before sudden failure in health made her seek the care of Resthaven at Leabrook. She still resides in this Methodist home four miles from Adelaide. She is the authoress of five books.

Thank you Violet. [Margaret Turner, Tuross Head, December 2003].
